Norfolk ... Pt 4 Continues

Outside people were coming and going. Not many line ups here, but the occasional one would happen. Dustin quickly grabbed some supplies and headed back to the inn. Galen and Draven would be waiting there.

Marcus from Pespid was expected to enter the gates of Norfolk at any minute. The three messengers had been waiting for his arrival. They were anxious to hear news from Pespid. The coming dangers would be a little clearer after Marcus delivers news from Pespid. All three of them were hoping that the news would be good news.

One of the guards of the gate opened the door of the inn and walked into the saloon where Dustin, Galen and Draven were sitting. “Sirs, Marcus will be entering the gates shortly, we have seen him ride out of the forest and should be at the gates by now” the lanky guard announced.

“Thanks” Galen muttered.

Dustin had never met Marcus, but from the words of the lanky guard he guessed that Marcus has been to this village on more than one occasion. This being his second time in Norfolk, he was not surprised when Draven was the only person to call him by name. Being on the road for most of your days, you do not get much time to make friends. As a messenger, Dustin’s only friends were other messengers. Sometimes made life boring, but it was his duty as a messenger to bring news to other towns and villages from his home town. With his absence Atanna's two other messengers would have to bring news to the surrounding towns.

The three were playing the waiting game. Soon Marcus would be escorted from the gates to the saloon to meet with the three. It was not very long before they heard the door creak open. A well armoured tall scruffy man walked through the doorway to the saloon where the three messengers were waiting. He carried a broad sword about his back and was sheathed behind his long green cloak.

“Draven, Galen, good to see you again” the tall man spoke. “And you” he said turning his attention toward Dustin, “must be the one from Atanna.”

Dustin replied “Dustin.”

“Now that we are all here,” Marcus began. “Draven told me you would be delayed here for training the militia and I told him I would meet all of you here. There will be some more training along the way. We have to get back to Pespid soon; I hope all of you are ready for the journey."

“We’ve been waiting for you” Draven spoke up. “Our horses are ready, let’s get moving.”

Galen, Draven and Dustin stood up and headed towards their mounts. Stable hands had prepared their horses out behind the inn. At the gate, Marcus was waiting, the gates were open. The four rode out towards Pespid together.
